Counting my blessings!

I dislike putting up status updates on the blog but this is the one time I'd like to make an exception, for this time, I am writing about my friends.
In the last 3 months, I have attended 3 whole weddings! And yes, I mean '3' 'whole' 'weddings!' I must have done something right because the fact that I am unemployed, has meant that I have been able to attend the 3 weddings I would've dropped everything I was doing to attend, without having to drop anything I was doing! I got to be a part of all the little functions and all the big ones too...I got to see a gujju-maru wedding, a tam-punjabi wedding and a punjabi-jain wedding! Talk about national integration eh? I loved being a part of all the three weddings and was happier that all the three wanted me there for every little thing that was going on...I'm so happy, I almost did consider, for a whole day too at that, my own prospects of marriage...although, by the end of the day, I did conclude I wasn't marriage material and would never be grown up enough to shoulder the responsibility attached to a successful marriage...nor do I see myself ever becoming a caring and loving father.
Honestly though, I am over-joyed with the union of my 3 best friends with the loves of their lives...may they live out their days, together in marital bliss!
I thank whoever gave me the opportunity, from the bottom of my heart. There seems to be a God somewhere, after all! I mean, how many people can say they were with their best friends through every single step of the journey towards martyrdom...oh wait...I meant marriage!
:P
I love you guys!

For Jaggidon!

Before I'd met him, they'd said he was old,
Before I knew him, I believed what I was told,
But not for long, cause soon I was certain,
There was a kid inside, hiding behind age's curtain,
A zest for life, that put those younger to shame,
From the Director to the watchmen, everyone knew his name,
An ocean of patience, bottled within,
Little or nothing, that got under his skin,
Though I've always thought, patience was just a show,
The real reason perhaps, the fact that with him everything registers a tad ___,
Like even now, I'm sure you've figured before him,
Cause right about this line, his tubelight switches on, as does his precious grin,
Yes, long overdue has been this rhyme,
But Heck, in his case, promptness would've been a crime,
So folks once more, recall the 'Bolt' salute,
And with it, that lovable Jat brute,
I'm gonna miss hear him say, 'saale cc' at the end,
Paape, I love you, my bro, my friend!

Some words for friends...

The days with you, now gone by,
Were among the best in my life,
As happy as then, I would never be,
For each dawn now, brings another day without you, for me...

Sitting in the bus, i can't stop looking back,
At the memories dumbo, not the road-track!
With a smile on my lips i reminisce,
Those days of careless bliss,
Like all good things that have a habit of coming to an end,
These days too, now seem to transcend,
All those times, you've made me smile or I've made you cry,
I realise I couldn't bring back even if I try,
I've let you know I'm leaving but I haven't bid farewell,
And I never will, for I love you and in my heart, you shall forever dwell...

The "I Remember You!!!" Rule

All of us have trouble remembering all the people from our past. The condition is even worse when someone calls you up at long last and then you just can't give the name a face! After a few minutes of awkward conversation, you finally recall and then suddenly, bang in front of your eyes is the image of that person from the first time that you thought they were noteworthy. Sometimes it's the first time that you met and sometimes the last time you bid them farewell. But strangely enough, you could be 20 years down the line and still the image that comes to your mind would be the one from the first time you met!

I have a few strange images of people. Yesterday, I bumped into an old friend after many years and reminiscing the old days, suddenly brought forth a name from my past. And the first image that popped to my mind was not the one from an early morning basketball practice, not the one from one of the several matches we played together, not one from the lunch breaks but one from 7th grade with him looking straight ahead at the teacher in the midst of an exam with 3 fingers held up slyly against his cheek indicating the question number for which he wanted the answer! We must have had so many other memorable times together but that was the first image that popped to my mind!

The best one though is of my best friend which epitomises the friendship we share. We have known each other since pre-nursery and yet, the image I carry of him is from the first day we met. The first time we were being taught how to write, I had lost my eraser and was rubbing a wet finger on the paper to erase whatever it was that I had written. Suddenly I felt a whack on my back and there was this chubby boy telling me that it wasn't a good thing to be doing and offered me his eraser. To this day, he has always been the one to whack me whenever I have been doing wrong...

Funny eh? I am sure you suffer from the same. Somehow, the image that I can conjure when I am thinking about someone is always the same for that first few moments before the memory kicks in. I call it the "I remember you!" rule cause it's the reaction that is evoked when you suddenly recall somebody and the image in front of you is the one that you will carry to your grave (and just to sound a little profound and intelligent) ...maybe beyond!
